The Brooklyn Nets, a professional basketball team of America founded in the New York City town of Brooklyn. The team plays its domestic games at the Barclays Center. Brooklyn Nets compete in National Basketball Association (NBA) as a member club of the Eastern Conference’s Atlantic Division. The team is also an original member of American Basketball Association (ABA) and established in 1967 as a charter franchise of the NBA’s rival league. Team’s present head coach is Kenny Atkinson.

Before moving to Long Island in 1968 the team played in New Jersey as the New Jersey Americans for their first season. In 1968 after playing their first season the New Jersey Americans changed their name to New York Nets. During the time period from 1968-76, the New York Nets won two ABA championships (in 1974 and 1976). In 1976, when the ABA merged with the NBA and the Nets were absorbed along with three other teams of ABA i.e. the San Antonio Spurs, Indiana Pacers and Denver Nuggets into the NBA.

The team returned to New Jersey in 1977, and played as the New Jersey Nets from 1977-2012.During this era, the New Jersey Nets won two consecutive Eastern Conference Championships ( in 2001-02 and 2002-03 seasons), but unsuccessful to win a League title. When the team moved to the Barclays Center, in the summer of 2012 it took its current geographic name.
