The Houston Rockets is one of the professional basketball teams of America, based in Houston, Texas. The Rockets play in the NBA as the member club of Southwest Division of the Western Conference in the NBA. They play their home games at the Toyota Center, located in downtown Houston. The team was founded as the San Diego Rockets, as an extension team which was originally based in San Diego, in 1967. But in 1971, the Rockets shifted to Houston. The Rockets won only 15 games in their entrance season as a franchise in 1967.

One of the most famous players of Rockets, Malone won the NBA Most Valuable Player award two times and led the team to the conference finals in his first year with team. He also led the Rockets to the NBA finals in 1981, but the team could not get the Championship title and defeated by Bolton Celtics. In 1984, the Rockets got two rock stars Hakeem Olajuwon paired with Ralph Sampson having 7 feet 4 inches height. They both formed one of the tallest front courts in the NBA history and were nicknamed as “Twin Towers”. They derived the team to NBA final 1989-the second time to NBA finals in franchise history where Houston Rockets were again defeated by Celtics.

The Rockets continued to attain the playoffs throughout the 1980s, but failed to move forward to the second round for the rest of the decade. During the 1991-92 season Rudy Tomjanovich became the head coach and guided the team towards the most successful period in franchise history. The Rockets reached the 1994 NBA final and the team got his first Championship against the New York Knicks. In 1995 team again won the championship in 1995 as the sixth seed in the Western Conference and swept the Orlando Magic in four games.

In this way the Houston became the lowest-seeded team in NBA history to win Championship title. The Rockets won four Conference titles (in 1981, 1986, 1994, and 1995) and five Division titles (in 1977, 1986, 1993, 1994 and 2015) in their game history. The present head coach is Mike D’Antoni.
